Something is missing from today's R&B, and Keith Sweat tells ABC News Radio that the same thing is missing from today's relationships, too.  "There's no romance," says Sweat, who has been traveling the country promoting his new book Make It Last Forever: The Dos and Don'ts.

The guide, which helps readers navigate the sometimes confusing world of dating and marriage, is named for Keith's debut album, and its title track "Make It Last Forever."  Released in 1987, the song shared the airwaves with singles like LeVert's "Casanova" and Roger's "I Want to Be Your Man."  A year later, Guy released "I Like."

Sweat says, if you listen to "my music or Guy's music or Brian McKnight's music," he says you'll find "more foreplay."  By that, he means, "It was like, 'OK, before we make love...' -- Like, even with Babyface, 'I'll cook your dinner,' -- and [there were] those types of things."

Nowadays, that kind of seduction isn't the key, Sweat says, adding, "It's more the beat and say whatever you want, however you want.  R&B isn't the "same type of music, and that's why most people will go back and play Keith Sweat or Johnny Gill or those type of songs to get them in the mood."

So while Sweat and his early peers have fans covered on the music tip, he couldn't help but recognize the void that still existed in some of their love lives.  "That's why I figured I would write the book," Sweat says.  "Because people forget how to be in a relationship.  Everybody that's in a relationship should not be in a relationship and those that are in a relationship, sometime need help in making that relationship stronger."

Sweat, who has been married and divorced, and gone through his share of good and bad relationships, draws from his own experiences to help readers.  His book Make It Last Forever: The Dos and Don'ts is in stores now.
