94.1 WHRP CELEBRATING OUR LOCAL SHE-ROE’S & HER-STORY!! Marie Troupe is the owner of Wine & Design on County Line Road in Madison, AL. Blessed with an amazing business acumen, she has successfully curated this wonderful sip and paint business into a family-friendly gathering where everyone can gather to celebrate special occasions, meet for a night out or just relax while sipping-n-painting the night away. In fact, Toni Terrell will have her first “Girlfriend’s Night Out” in 3 years at Wine & Design on March 29th. Marie interacts and connects with people from all walks of life, and she has such a beautiful spirit and a charming personality. She never meets a stranger, and is always willing to lend a helping hand. Her philanthropic and charitable works have helped so many in the community. Marie holds many non-profits near and dear to her heart like Sydney’s Hope Foundation, which gives opportunities and scholarships to children with childhood illness. She continues to be an advocate, friend and mentor to so many in the community. Marie Troupe is doing so many wonderful things, and she is extremely excited about the future. Her big heart and kindness are just a few of the amazing traits that are immediately noticed when you meet her. 94.1 WHRP CELEBRATING OUR LOCAL SHE-ROE’S & HER-STORY!!

Betty Kelly-Austin is undoubtedly one of the greatest coaches in Alabama A&M history. As the head coach for Alabama A&M women’s volleyball, she led the program to more than 600 wins, and also had an astounding 17 conference championships. She was inducted into the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Hall of Fame in 2014, and was selected to Alabama A&M Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019. Austin retired as the Alabama A&M women’s volleyball coach following the 2006 season, but she continued to be involved in Alabama A&M athletics. She was hired as Alabama A&M’s Director of Athletics in 2007. She was one of the first black female athletic directors in NCAA Division I athletics. Not only was she a legendary Volleyball coach, but she also spent six seasons as the Alabama A&M women’s basketball coach. She cared so much about all of her student-athletes, and helped to develop so many women over the years. We are so thankful for her many years of service. Today, we are pleased to recognize Rev. Endia J. Scruggs, who after 34 years is retiring as the Pastor of Madkins Chapel CPCA. Rev. Scruggs was the first woman to serve as moderator of the General Assembly of the CPCA denomination, and was the first moderator to serve two consecutive terms. She also served as moderator and vice-moderator of the Huntsville Presbytery of the CPCA. A community activist in the Huntsville/Madison County area, Reverend Scruggs is the recipient of a number of awards. She was also recognized by the Huntsville City Council for her many years of dedicated service. She has such a humble and kind spirit, and her congregation was so blessed to have her for so many years. Today we recognize her for the contributions she has made to the community. Thank you Rev. Scruggs for all that you have done, and for what you will continue to do. Today, we are happy to recognize Rev. 94.1 WHRP CELEBRATING OUR LOCAL SHE-ROE’S & HER-STORY!!

Today we are pleased to recognize Yvette Torbert, an anointed and compassionate woman who is the owner of Agape Consulting LLC. The business which she serves as co-owner with her husband Shelton, is dedicated to customizing workshops, training, and classes based on organizational needs for business, non-profit or religious organization. They also offer coaching services and tools for assessing career goals. A former educator, she was a fixture in the public school system for almost 15 years. Mrs. Torbert also served in the United States Army, and was a military spouse for over 20 years. She currently works as an HR Specialist with the Department of Treasury, and is pursuing a second Masters Degree in Communication Arts from the University of Alabama at Huntsville (UAH). Yvette is also a member of the American Businesswomen’s Association (ABWA), and the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Incorporated. A devout Christian woman, she is an associate minister at the St. Luke Christian Church in Huntsville. Minister Torbert is also the lead servant for the Women’s Ministry. 94.1 WHRP CELEBRATING OUR LOCAL SHE-ROE’S & HER-STORY!!

Today we are pleased to recognize. Margo Gray WAFF 48 Margo Gray, who is an award-winning journalist, and evening news anchor at WAFF-48. A native of Kingston, Jamaica she was raised in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Margo has covered major stories in the area to include the April 2011 tornado outbreak, and the University of Alabama-Huntsville workplace shooting. She was also recognized by the Better Business Bureau of North Alabama for her investigative reporting on a scam farming business involving a pyramid scheme that stole thousands from valley families. An energetic and pleasant personality, she is a proud graduate of the University of Florida. Margo is an active member of the Investigate Reporters & Editors organization and the National Association of Black Journalists. She gets involved in the Rocket City community by mentoring local youth and teaching etiquette classes. Her motto is “leave a room better than you found it.” We are so glad to have her here in the Tennessee Valley, and we are proud to acknowledge Margo Gray for Women’s History Month.

Today we are pleased to recognize Valerie Hervey. She is an Alabama A&M graduate, and former star volleyball player for the Bulldogs. Valerie is now a coach, but she is proud to say that her greatest achievement was raising her beautiful daughter, Jale’ Hervey. After 15 years of part-time coaching and training, Valerie handles a full slate now days, and she does it with such grace. Her many duties include passing on her experience by being the full-time Director of the Alabama Legacy Volleyball Club. The club gives her an opportunity to teach and inspire. She is a mentor who believes in training and developing children through Volleyball. If that isn’t enough, she is also the Head Volleyball Coach at Madison County HS. As you can tell, Ms. Hervey is quite busy doing what she loves to day. She is able to incorporate life’s lessons through the game most of us grew up with. She is an amazing lady, and we are so glad to have her here in the Tennessee Valley. Today, we are proud to acknowledge Valerie Hervey for Women’s History Month.

Today we are pleased to recognize Raven Perry-Beach. She is the founder, and managing attorney of The Beach Law Practice. She was recently voted the 2023 Female Entrepreneur of The Year by The Catalyst Center for Business & Entrepreneurship. Raven Perry-Beach is an advocate for veterans, and actually her commitment to the community is immense. She has served on the board of the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program, and is pleased to present the Expungement and Voting Rights Restoration Workshop, on March 20th. Her affiliations have included being vice-chair to the board of directors to the Alabama Non- Violent Offenders Organization, and she is a graduate of Leadership Greater Huntsville. Access to fair and affordable judicial council has always been at the heart of Ms. Perry-Beach. Today, we are proud to acknowledge Raven Perry-Beach for Women’s History Month.

Today we are pleased to recognize Violet Edwards. She made history by becoming the first Black Woman to win a seat on the Madison County Commission. Commissioner. Edwards has been instrumental in obtaining much needed help for her constituents in District 6. One of her most noteworthy accomplishments, is securing a $5.2 million federal grant to provide emergency funds to Madison County residents, to help struggling families pay rent and utilities during the coronavirus pandemic. Violet is the past Director of Christmas Charities Year Round, a non-profit, charitable organization that serves Madison County; and she has always been active on the front-lines looking to make a difference. Violet Edwards continues to shine in our community, and we are so proud of her. Today, we recognize Violet Edwards for Women’s History Month.

Today we are pleased to recognize Kim Caudle Lewis. She is the CEO of PROJECTXYZ, Inc. Kim started PROJECTXYZ Inc. in 2002, and two years ago they were named the US Chamber of Commerce Women-Owned Business of the Year. Kim has served as Board President of Health Establishment at Local Schools (HEALS, Inc.), she was selected to the board of the National Children’s Advocacy Center, and was also the first African-American Female Chair of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce. She has also held a number of other leadership roles, including seats on the boards of the Chamber Foundation, Public Affairs Research Council of North Alabama, Huntsville Botanical Garden, the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, Huntsville Committee of 100, and Calhoun Community College. Today we are pleased to recognize Veronica Rice. She is a retired educator from Alabama’s public schools with 34 years of service. She is also a licensed and ordained associate
minister of the St. Luke Christian Church in Huntsville. Always looking to help others, , Veronica organized a virtual outreach ministry at the beginning of the pandemic, which provided Christian fellowship for seniors that were ill, the shut-in, and those with physical limitations. Veronica is a tremendous woman of faith. An amazing mother, she is also a caregiver for her father. She is a kind-hearted and devoted minister of the gospel, and an author who has 2 published books to her credit. Today, we proudly recognize Veronica Rice for Women’s History Month.

Today we are pleased to recognize Lt Col Amanda Watkins. She is the Product Manager, Command, Control, and Effects, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, PEO Aviation, Redstone Arsenal. The Program Executive Office for Aviation is the Army manager for ten project offices including: Apache Helicopters, Aviation Mission Systems & Architecture, Cargo Helicopters, Utility Helicopters, Improved Turbine Engine, Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft, Future Long Range Assault Aircraft, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Fixed Wing Aircraft and Multinational Aviation Special Projects. Today we are pleased to recognize Kitrise Torain. She has been working in education and with the Huntsville City School System for 19 years. During her time with HCS, she has worked as a teacher, reading and math coach, Summer Teacher Academy Coach, magnet coordinator and assistant principal. Most of her career has been centered around magnet schools. She was a freshmen academy administrator and assistant principal at Lee High School for five years. Currently, she is the principal of the Academy for Academics and Arts where her career began. Additionally, she is over the Children’s Ministry Department at her church, the Fountain of Life C.O.G.I.C. Her husband and children offer their full support in all of her efforts. She loves her family, and adores the children that she comes in contact with on a daily basis. Today, we are so proud to recognize Kitrise Torain for Women’s History Month.

Under Mayor Caudle’s leadership Triana continues its growth, and is perhaps the best kept secrets in North Alabama. Prior to becoming Mayor, Mary Caudle served on the Triana Town Council. Mayor Caudle is devoted to the overall well-being of the community and strives to be a positive impact through her service and efforts to improve the quality of life for her citizens. Mary is also owner of ASSIST Practice Management Services, LLC. Family is her motivation and the driving force behind her achieved and continued success and ultimate happiness. At the peak of her teaching career, she decided to become a part-time Real Estate Agent. After enormous success as an agent, she decided to further her real estate career by getting a broker’s license. Chanda’s passion for real estate did not fill the void that teaching left, so she decided to combine her passion for teaching and real estate to become a certified instructor. Chanda Davis is passionate about her work and has been a blessing to so many people she has come in contact with. Beth’s academic achievements include studying at Tuskegee University, Webster University, Huntsville Bible College, and the Alabama School of Banking in Mobile. Under her leadership the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha, have established scholarship initiatives that have awarded over $100,000 to hundreds of college students.

She is an adjunct professor at Oakwood University, and a permanent resident artist at Willette’s Prism in the Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment District in Huntsville. Willette was the first student at Albany State College to graduate with a dual degree in Computer Science and Art. She is an amazingly talented fashion designer too, who was the first from Alabama to produce a fashion show for Paris Fashion Week. She has supported WHRP in a number of community events to include our annual Coat Drive. She has been a true friend, and we are so thankful for her service to the community. Today we are pleased to recognize Marvinia Adams. She is a U.S. Army veteran, and owner of the Martinizing Dry Cleaning franchise in Madison and Huntsville. Marvinia is such a joy to be around, and an inspiration to so many. A widow, her husband also served in the U.S. Army with honor. He wanted her to be successful in everything, and Marvinia has done just that. She has taken Martinizing Dry Cleaning, and turned it into a place that not only provides exceptional customer service, but she has made it a business that is community oriented. Marvinia is committed to supporting the community by volunteering to feed the homeless; donating clothes to those in need, being an amazing mentor; and sponsoring events for local schools. Marvinia Adams’ management technique is a model for all to follow. She treats her employees with love and respect. Marvinia hires those who are seeking a second chance. Today we are pleased to recognize Mrs. Nedjra Russell. She is the Assistant Principal at the Rainbow Elementary School in Madison. Her love of educating children began when she was in grade school as a little girl. A wife of a former Air Force service man, her career did not start right away. The mother of 4 stayed at home with her children until they were ready for school, and along the way she operated a Home Daycare business for the Air Force. She even won Home Provider of the Year! When her husband retired they moved to Madison, and she continued her education and obtained employment within the pre-K program. Currently. She was part of a team that updated Alabama Early Childhood standards, and her classroom was recognized as a mentor classroom for conscious discipline. She is currently working on getting a national board certification, and she also recently published a book called “Ma-Ma’s Porch” available on Amazon. She is an educator with a love for all children, and she continues to do her part to make sure they learn. Today, we are pleased to recognize Mrs. Nedjra Russell, as we continue to celebrate Women’s History Month.

Yolanda has utilized Social Media to provide a valuable service via W-GTPWTV ‘We Give The People What They Want’ TV. She has created an innovative concept to keep our most underserved community informed, and reaches an audience that would possibly be ignored. She loves to bring the people of Huntsville together with events like her annual Easter Egg Hunt for the children in the area. Yolanda has been a friend of the station for a long time, and we are thankful for the positive, progressive vibes that she brings to Huntsville. Today, we are pleased to recognize Yolanda Denson, as we conclude our celebration of Women’s History Month.
