Chris Brown is making his position clear after another round of public criticism. In a recent Instagram Stories post, the singer said he is no longer interested in seeking approval from the music industry or from other celebrities.
His comments came after renewed attention surrounding honors presented to Brown and Usher during an R&B Tour stop at AT&T Stadium. Texas state Rep. Venton Jones later apologized for recognizing Brown, pointing to the singer’s past domestic violence case. Brown responded that he had not requested the recognition and said his focus remains on the fans who continue to support his music and live shows.
Brown also defended his career and described himself as one of the strongest artists working today. His remarks reflect the tension that has followed him for years as commercial success has continued alongside scrutiny of his personal history.
Brown pleaded guilty in 2009 to assaulting Rihanna. Since then, he has remained a major presence in R&B, with a long run of charting songs, albums, and sold-out performances.
